Beyond

Deep beneath a wall of stone and steel,
masoned by a friendly face,
lies the key to free my heart to heal beyond.

I’m lacking fire, I’m lacking drive.
What will inspire me, remind me I’m alive?

Well, now’s my chance to find
the strength to keep my footing.
To hold my ground, to stand up
tall and on my own.

Betrayal took its toll on
how and when I’m trusting.
Perhaps the scars will heal once
I have fin’lly grown,
forgiving hatred and fear.
To a new place where I’ll trust once more.

Let go their expectations,
cling tightly to your dreams.
Hold on, cling to your dreams!

Beyond their limits, beyond my dread.
Beyond my crowded thoughts
and cold and empty bed.

Wake up and risk it all to grow.
You’ve listened, learned, so now respond.
Let go and move beyond.

Where’s that drive?
My joy and fire?

Tough, this mending fences.
Hard, regaining trust.
Overcome offenses
to build a new life from the dust.

I should reach towards something
instead of run away.
Free myself to wander,
to hope and heal, proceed and pray.
I’m not afraid because of what’s beyond.
