Ordinary Things
Toilet clogged, just like my brain.Chance at love? Shot down the drain.
Each breath today just brings more pain.
Am I insane? Think of ordinary things to calm.
The joys that free your mind from queries and qualms.
Today is just a roadblock.
Tomorrow, you’ll reload, walk away.
So what if the world finds peace passé? Live for those common little gifts that go unseen,
the changes to your day-to-day routine.
Take a sudden detour,
find a way to see you’re alive!
Better to thrive than just survive. But it’s so damn tricky
in a world ripe with fair-weather friends. Lean on the ordinary things today,
like staying safe and warm beneath the duvet.
Freshly laundered linen,
tonic, lime, and gin in a glass.
Details that add a touch of class. But the world is classless, curt, and cruel.
And I’m fuming, running out of fuel.
I’m so stressed and scared I’ve run out of time.
I can’t finish the climb. People running lights, people starting fights,
an unsilenced phone.
I’m a laughingstock. I paid what for guac!?
Will I die alone?
God, I’m such a mope, struggling to cope.
Where’s an ounce of hope? All that’s left is- NOPE! Think about the ordinary things that please,
like soaking up the sun
and bathing in breeze.
Pouting is plebeian,
Choose an epicurean line.
Treat yourself to a steak and wine,
topped off by a Starbucks cup
with logo, sleeve, and spout all lined up.
Mmm…
Aah.
